| Shawn Gillen, PhD
The City Manager is tasked with managing the daily operations of the Doraville City government administration. The City Manager carries out his duties in accordance with federal, state and local laws and policies adopted by the Mayor and City Council. Responsibilities and authorities include implementing the vision of the elected leadership and directing the activities of City departments. The City Manager is the chief administrative officer and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor and Council.
City Manager, Shawn Gillen, has over 16 years of local government experience. Before assuming his current role, Gillen served in the same capacity for Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Gillen has also served as an Assistant Professor of Public Finance at Eastern Kentucky University and Chief of Staff for the City Council of the Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky Urban County Government. In the late 1990s, Gillen served as full-time Mayor for his hometown of Monmouth, Illinois.
Gillen holds a Masters of Public Administration and a PhD in Public Finance from the University of Kentucky. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa where he played for the Hawkeye football program. Shawn and his wife Katie have three daughters, Georgia, Lilla and Scarlett.
