Opening for the Doraville Municipal Swimming Pool, located in Flowers Park, 5921 New Peachtree Road (across the street from the Doraville MARTA station), has been re-scheduled to June 3.
“Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, including some DeKalb water issues, the pool opening is being delayed,” says Mayor Donna Pittman. “City staff has been working diligently to get the pool ready, but the issues and recent rainy weather created setbacks.
“My apologies to everyone,” Mayor Pittman added. “I know how disappointed everyone will be, as am I, to not have our pool ready for the holiday weekend.”
Visitors this year will be treated to added amenities as a result of the recent $1.7 million park renovation that included new landscaping throughout the park, additional picnic tables and pavilion areas, brand new decking around the pool and an updated pool house. The renovation was approved by the Doraville City Council as part of the city’s Master Parks & Recreation Plan and managed by Rip Robertson, Doraville public works and parks director.
Pool hours are: Monday, 1 p.m.- 8 p.m.; Tuesdays, closed; Wednesdays, 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.; Thursdays, 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.; Fridays, 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturday. Noon – 7 p.m.; and Sundays, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Pool fees: 12 yrs. and under--$3.00; 13 yrs. and up--$5.00; and Seniors (55+)--$3.00. Season Pool Passes for Resident Family are $75.00 for up to five family members. Non-Resident Family pass $100.00 for up to five family members. Resident Individual pass is $45.00. Non-Resident Individual Pass is $55.00.
“As has been requested by residents, we did look at extending or changing pool hours to help families take advantage of not just the pool but some of the new amenities,” says Mayor Donna Pittman. “We have adjusted days and times to accommodate residents’ various schedules and have brought in a new aerobics instructor that I believe will continue our success and fun for seniors.
“Because many people take three-day weekends either Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday, we have adjusted our ‘closed’ day from Mondays to Tuesdays,” adds Pittman. “This allows families on “three-day weekends” continous use of the facility. We will also be extending Monday’s hours to 8 p.m. to provide additional time for those wanting to spend extra time at the pool after work."
Pittman also noted that the new aerobics instructor for the pool is Diane Hutchison. Hutchison has taught senior aerobics at Fleming Arena in Honeysuckle Park for many years and is familiar with Doraville and many of the seniors here. She has been certified and currently teaches water aerobics in other venues.
