“The World Is Ours” was the theme for this year’s International Day at Cary Reynolds Elementary School in Northwoods and, in a presentation on May 19, students gathered in the school’s cafeteria to “visit” the countries of Madagascar, Puerto Rico, Italy, Brazil, Jamaica, South Korea and the United States.
The popular annual celebration gives students the opportunity to learn about culture, food, geography and history of a list of countries selected by the children each year for study. The hour-long presentation included skits, educational information, music and native dress from the seven countries chosen this year.
Opening comments for the celebration were given by Cary Reynolds Principal Jennifer Leupold and 2017-18 Teacher of the Year Dr. Ladonna Hollis. The pledge of allegiance and national anthem was provided by the school’s Fifth Grade Patrol Captains and Honors Chorus, respectively.
Stephe Koontz and the Doraville Kiwanis Club were honored for their recent contribution of a new sound system to the school.
Fourth Grade Special Education Teacher Sandy Gamino emceed the event.
