For the second consecutive year, Doraville city employees’ softball team, the Free Birds, are challenging the Dunwoody city employee team, the Dunwoody Force, to a benefit ball game at 1 p.m., Friday, October 20, at Honeysuckle Park, 3037 Pleasant Valley Drive in Doraville. There is no admission for the game...it is free and open to the public.

A fund-raising raffle drawing will be held at the game for a Big Green Egg® grill package (valued at $800) and gift card prizes. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 and can be purchased in advance beginning September 20 at Forest Fleming Arena (at Honeysuckle Park) or Doraville City Hall, 3725 Park Avenue, and at Dunwoody City Hall, 41 Perimeter Center East.

For convenience, the raffle tickets may also be purchased online now at https://raffles.ticketprinting.com/?r=6304. You do not have to be present to win the raffle! Just buy raffle tickets before 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19.

All proceeds from the raffle will go to I Will Survive, Inc., 5879 New Peachtree Road, a local non-profit agency for breast cancer survivors operated by military veteran Anisa Palmer. Palmer, who did two deployments in Iraq for the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, created the agency in memory of her mother, who lost a battle with cancer at age 38, and to help others struggling with the disease.

The agency’s work is divided into three major components: surviving financial assistance; surviving educational awareness; and health and wellness survivorship. For more information about this worthwhile charity, visit their website at www.iwillsurviveinc.org. All donations are tax deductible.

Last year, the competition between the two teams, led by Doraville Mayor Donna Pittman and Dunwoody Mayor Dennis Shortal, raised over $3,000 for I Will Survive. Doraville won the game 18-5.

In addition to Big Green Egg, other sponsors for the event include The Brass Tap Draft Beer Bar, Wild Wing Café and Coaxum’s Seafood Restaurant.
